After drawing a blank in the Farmers, we head for the party at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Course form is a strong predictor here, with the Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale one of the highest ranked on tour for this metric.
Dual previous champion Scottie Scheffler heads the market as you would expect, although odds around the +240 mark make him one of the shortest-priced favourites since Tiger was in his prime. Now that his putting has improved significantly (believe it or not, he ranks 6th in this field over the last six months), he is very difficult to oppose.
There’s no doubting that off the back of a big win at the AmEx, he’s by far the likeliest winner and his presence in the field makes it very difficult to back anyone else with any confidence. Given that there’s a fair likelihood that win stakes may get us nowhere, our strategy this week will be to have some small win bets, supplemented with stronger stakes in the top finish markets.
A decent all-round game is required at Scottsdale and it’s interesting that over the years the results have varied considerably, strongly favouring bombers on some occasions, but in other year favouring accuracy. So we’ll be focusing on players who have previously shown a liking for the venue whilst having proven ability to gain ground across all aspects of their game.
Preview
TPC Scottsdale is built for drama. Wide fairways invite aggression, but firm greens and strategic bunkering demand precision. The closing stretch — holes 15, 16, and 17 — is one of the most entertaining sequences on the PGA Tour.

Firm, fast greens that reward high‑quality approach play
A closing stretch designed for volatility, perfect for Sunday drama
⭐ The Iconic 16th Hole — “The Coliseum”
The par‑3 16th is the most famous hole in golf:
Fully enclosed by a 20,000‑seat stadium
Players are cheered, booed, and celebrated like rock stars
A good shot triggers a roar; a bad one gets showered in noise
A hole‑in‑one here becomes instant golf folklore
No other event on the PGA Tour replicates this atmosphere.
