Another case of close but no cigar for us as Adam Scott secured a top 5 return which recovered the majority of our stakes, but a poor display with the putter in round 3 ultimately made the difference. Having putted very well in the other three rounds, a bunch of missed putts from 6 feet and in cost us a good opportunity for a big-priced win. Cam Young rallied strongly in the final round to finish T7, just short of the mark that would have seen us in profit for the week. Hideki put in another solid showing without ever threatening, and must be on the radar for Augusta in a few weeks time, while our longshots Pendrith and Hall never got in the mix. The winner Jacob Bridgeman won’t have been on many people’s shortlists but had this more-or-less sewn up after three incredible rounds of golf, particularly on the greens. Although he somewhat fell over the line in the end, it was a superb display to put such a strong field to the sword. The dynamic changes this week after two signature events, with a much-weakened field for the Cognizant Classic, featuring only Ben Griffin (who has subsequently pulled out) from the world’s top 20. However we tend to prefer these events from a value perspective, so stay tuned for the picks over the next few days.

After another close call for our followers at the Genesis, we shift gears this week as a markedly weaker field tees it up for the Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches. With a wide open market, it makes a pleasant change to not have to start with an assessment of Scottie Scheffler’s likely performance before determining a strategy.
With Ben Griffin and last week’s victor Jacob Bridgeman having withdrawn onMonday, the field is weakened further. While neither was particularly prominent in our thinking, their absence offers a golden opportunity for someone to secure a breakthrough tour win.
The Cognizant (previously the Honda Classic) has less well-established trends than other events, with winning scores having varied considerably: 5 or 6 under has got the job done on a few occasions, but in the last 5 years it’s taken at least 10 under to secure the win. Similarly, the list of winners is a mixed bag, with bombers and accuracy merchants each having had their share of victories. So we’ll be casting the
net wide and not allowing ourselves to be too focused on any particular metrics as we look for the winner.
Headline Pick : Ryan Gerard (6 units win +1600, 6 units top 5 +410)
