Preview

Last year, Nick Dunlap won the American Express as an amateur, 33 years since Phil Mickleson won the Northern Trust open in 1991. Dunlap turned professional the week after his win and while he initially struggled for form he recorded his second PGA win at the Barracuda Championship in July securing his PGA status until 2027. He returns as a professional to defend the title he won as an Amateur. Dunlap earned zero for the win whereas 2nd placed Christian Bezeidenhout took home Dunlaps first prize of over $1.5m. Missing out on the prize money hasn’t seemed to have phased Nick as he has won over $3m since and won Rookie of the year for 2024.

Only a couple of times a year do the tournaments span different courses, which itself presents us with unique challenges. Approach is the metric which is more relevant than others but recent form and tournament form also have a factor to play.
SungJae is the most reasonably priced of the front runners, whereas WZ has definitely been showing some form after working very hard in the off season to put 20lbs of muscle on (he is now 110lbs dripping wet 🙂 ). Echavarria is coming off the back of leaving LIV to play majors and a narrow playoff loss to Nick Taylor last week. Glover at 100/1 is very appealing especially as he is showing some form and has played this tournament plenty of times. Finally McGreevy and Caplan III are as the young kids say trending and represent tremendous value.

Data, Drives, Value

Best of luck.
