Last week’s review:
The Zurich produced its usual insane scoring, highlighted by the Fitzpatrick brothers shooting a scarcely-believable 15 under in the third round betterball. Unfortunately for us, the birdies were maintained right up to the final hole, where a sublime bunker shot from Matt saw his little brother have a tap-in to win the event, depriving Ventura & Reitan of the chance to get into a playoff.
Nonetheless it was a small profit for us courtesy of two of our four picks making the top 10, and had you been a little bolder and played them in the top 5 markets, the returns would have been significantly better.
The next two weeks sees a couple of signature events, starting with a return to the Blue Monster at Doral, which hosts a tour event for the first time in a decade.
Preview
The Blue Monster course at Trump National Doral hosts the next signature event of 2026, the Cadillac Championship. Not used as a tour venue for a decade or so, it’s set to be a brutal test, weighing in at almost 7750 yards, so it can be expected to favour those who hit the ball a mile and can control their approach play from upwards of 200 yards. Given that there isn’t any recent course form to draw on, we’ll be taking a prudent approach to staking.
As with most signature events, many of the world’s top players are taking part, although Masters champion Rory McIlroy sits this one out, as do five other members of the top 20. Scottie Scheffler unsurprisingly heads the market, albeit at a much-compressed price following his strong showing at Augusta. We’re happy to avoid the world number one again this week, given that he still doesn’t seem to be quite back to his very best, is likely to be at least partly distracted by the recent addition to his family, yet his price remains around the level it was when he was firing on all cylinders.
Course Characteristics — The Blue Monster at Doral
Par: 72
Yardage: 7,739 yards (one of the longest on TOUR)
Architects: Dick Wilson & Robert von Hagge
Location: Miami, Florida
The Blue Monster is known for being one of the most intimidating and strategically demanding courses in professional golf. Key traits include:
Water hazards on multiple holes, especially on approaches and the closing stretch.
Championship length, with long par‑4s requiring towering mid‑to‑long irons.
Coastal wind exposure, adding unpredictability to club selection and shot shape.
Large Bermuda greens, where hitting the correct section is more important than simply finding the surface.
A brutal finishing hole, with water running the entire length of the fairway — widely regarded as one of the toughest closers in golf.
Headline Pick: Jake Knapp (4 units win +3000, 4 units top 5 +xxxx)
